What happened when “Queen of Canada” followers tried to arrest the police?

By The Big Story

In today’s Big story podcast, this weekend, in Peterborough, Ont., followers of Romana Didulo, the self-proclaimed ‘Queen of Canada’ attempted to perform citizens’ arrests on members of the city’s police force. It didn’t work, but things very nearly got out of hand. And if there were more people there, it might have.

Kurt Phillips is the founder of Anti-Racist Canada, and a board member at the Canadian anti-hate network. He joined us to break down all we know so far about what took place in Peterborough, and outline his greatest worries about the movement in general.

“There are real threats here, and these people genuinely believe that their enemies are going to die and they’ll celebrate those deaths,” he said.

Didulo’s followers have lost money, homes and freedom following her various directives. It begs the question: what will it take to help them find reality again?
