Calgary Pride mural unveiled at Southcentre Mall

A new 2-sided art installation has been unveiled at Southcentre Mall celebrating Calgary Pride 2022 kicking off in the city.

Made by a local visual artist, Scott Clark shows a digital piece infused with organic painting and photography, a display he says represents LGBTQIA2S+ identifying people who are seen and also heard.

“It’s a piece that represents LGBTQ people and just that we are seen, and we are heard,” said Clark.

There are two sides to the installation one shows the artwork, and the other side of the mural shows a Calgary outlink, a campaign running throughout Pride in Calgary aiming to raise awareness about outlink programs to promote the use of them and attract donations to the centre.

For Clark showcasing his art representing Pride is important because it’s not something he could have done in the past.

“At first years ago I would be so shy I wouldn’t show any work being gay.”

“I did a few pieces in the ’90s and no one saw. And so this series, I finally after all these years, felt confident to do art which is gay related,” said Clark.
