Calgary Stampeders unveil new jerseys for Labour Day Classic

The Calgary Stampeders unveiled new jerseys on Monday that the team will wear during the annual Labour Day Classic.

The new alternate uniforms have a black and red colour scheme, with a stylized “CGY” written on the sleeves.

The annual game features a matchup between longtime rivals Calgary Stampeders and Edmonton Elk.

The Stampeders organization says this is the sixth iteration of the teams’ black jersey. The team has traditionally worn black during every Labour Day game since the 90s.

“The Stamps were the first Canadian Football League team to introduce a permanent third jersey when they unveiled black jerseys for the Labour Day Classic on Sept. 6, 1994,” the organization said in a release. “They capped the occasion with a 48-15 win over Edmonton.”

Hopefully the new threads will bring the team a stroke of good luck, the team is 33-11 while wearing the black jerseys.

The Labour Day Classic gets underway Sept. 5, kickoff is at 2:30 p.m. at McMahon Stadium.
