Calgary fire crews respond to pair of blazes on Thursday night

The Calgary Fire Department kept busy Thursday night, responding to a pair of fires in the city.

The first around 6:40 p.m. at a single-storey home in the 2300 block of Crestwood Road in Ogden, the home suffering significant damage.

No serious injuries were reported but one woman was taken to hospital for observation and two cats were also rescued.

Then at 8:50 p.m., fire crews responded to a balcony fire on the 9th floor of Skygate Tower on 16th Avenue southwest.

The building was evacuated but the fire was put out quickly and residents were allowed to return.

The cause of both fires is still being investigated.
