Calgary police shut down social media comments

Calgary police are putting the brakes on comments made on their Twitter account  beginning Thursday, after a notice says some comments are offensive.

Calgary police are putting the brakes on some replies and comments on their social media accounts.

Police announced they would be limiting replies to some posts on their social media pages from their Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram profiles just before 6 p.m. Thursday.

“We believe that our social media sites should be a safe place for Calgarians to come to read about events that impact our city, and also to be heard,” reads the post from Calgary police.

Police add they were made aware of offensive comments that “do not align” with police values, and decided to shut down commenting “in the best interest of our community.”
