Canada-wide warrant issued in deadly Calgary shooting

Calgary Police have issued a Canada wide warrant in connection with a recent deadly shooting in the city.

Calgary police have issued a Canada-wide warrant for a man charged with second-degree murder after a shooting killed an innocent bystander at a southeast restaurant over a week ago.

Temesgen Tesfatsion was shot to death at the Ambassador Restaurant and Bar on 17 Avenue SE, also know as International Avenue, in the community of Radisson Heights on Sunday, Aug. 21. Police believe the 35-year-old was not the intended target of this shooting.

Officers charged 34-year-old Filimon Asmelash Asfiha in connection with Tesfatsion’s death.

“We know citizens are upset and angry with the recent violence we have seen in our city and appreciate their support with moving this investigation forward,” Staff-Sgt. Sean Gregson with Calgary police said.

“We believe someone was being targeted that night, however, we believe Temesgen was an innocent victim in this tragic event and not the intended target. We offer our deepest condolences to Temesgen’s friends and family and are doing all we can to locate the accused.”

Asfiha is described as 5′ 11″ tall, with a medium build, and short black hair.
