Two seniors dead after being trapped in burning home in central Alberta: RCMP

Police say two seniors are dead after being trapped inside a burning home in a community northeast of Calgary early Sunday morning.

RCMP say a 64-year-old woman and a 68-year-old man were found dead after a fire at a home in Trochu.

They are believed to be the only occupants of the home.

Three Hills RCMP say they were called to the home on fire shortly after 4 a.m. The 9-1-1 report specified there were people trapped inside.

Upon arrival at the home on School Road, crews say “active rescue efforts were made” but the two seniors could not be saved.

Three Hills RCMP and the Trochu Fire Department are investigating. The have yet to identify a cause of the fire.

Trochu is about 140 kilometres northeast of Calgary.
