Calgary man fined and banned for using BC hunting license

A Calgary man has received a fine, along with a two-year hunting ban for using a hunting license intended for B.C. residents Thursday.

According to a Facebook post, B.C. Conservation Officer Service says the incident happened near Woss on Vancouver Island in October 2019 during a hunting compliance check.

It is unclear what the man hunted, but officers say hunting big game as a non-resident without a licensed guide, an assistant guide with written authorization or a person with the required permissions is an offence under the B.C. Wildlife Act.

The man was sentenced in Port Hardy Provincial Court Thursday, and fined $2,875 along with the ban.

Police say they hope the penalty will deter people from doing similar activities.
