Calgary to establish new ‘Rundle Manor’ affordable housing complex
A new apartment complex for affordable housing is to be launched in the northeast part of the city and is expected to be near completion in early 2024.
We're very excited to be adding 135 units of affordable, mixed-income housing to Calgary!

Nearly $51.5 million has been invested into the 135 units for low and mixed-income individuals, including the costs of tearing down the old building and redeveloping the new one in its place, according to a municipal release.
“Rundle Manor is a critical part of our strategy to build inclusive and resilient communities by providing more readily available affordable homes,” said Calgary’s mayor Jyoti Gondek.

“Projects such as this transcend four walls and a roof – they transform lives and give families an opportunity for growth and stability,” said Gondek.
The original 40-year-old Rundle Manor was closed last year in June due to its meager return on investment for renovations, and instead, a new affordable complex will now be built and replace the older building, says the release.
“With a variety of nearby amenities, the Rundle Manor affordable housing redevelopment site provides residents with a seamless integration into the community,” said Ward 10 Councilor Andre Chabot.

“It will help keep vulnerable residents off the streets while also reducing demand and pressure on emergency services, hospitals, and correction facilities,” said Chabot.
The Rundle Manor redevelopment is an initiative to support low-income Calgarians in having a roof over their heads that is a safe and stable place to call home. It also serves Calgary Housing Company’s goal of transitioning to a mixed-market rental model.

“We cannot be more excited with how this project has progressed – there will be more homes, they will be built to current standards, they will be sustainable and meet the needs of those seeking housing support,” said Bo Jiang VP Asset & Maintenance for Calgary Housing Company.
Each individual unit will be rented at 10 per cent or more below the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation markets rents for the area.
