Calgary police say two people were hurt in a brazen daylight shooting in the southwest community of Marda Loop Tuesday afternoon, and one of them has been arrested.
Officers were called to the area of 28 Avenue SW and 17 Street just after 4 p.m.
When they got there, officers gave first aid to a man in his 30s before EMS took him to hospital in serious condition.
Police confirmed that a nearby “Good Samaritan” offered to drive a second victim, also a man, to a downtown hospital. The man refused and was dropped off near 7 Avenue and 11 Street SW.
Officers found the man at an apartment building on 9 Street SW in the downtown commercial district a while later.
He was taken to hospital in serious but stable condition.
Calgary police have since charged 27-year-old Moses Danto with eight counts related to firearm use, including careless use, possession of a weapon to the public, unauthorized possesion, and possession of a weapon obtained by crime.
Police also charged the suspect with failing to comply with a probation order.
Officers believe the shooting was targeted and that multiple people are involved.
“Right now there are multiple witnesses, I think in excess of half a dozen witnesses [are] being interviewed right now, including the Good Samaritan who tried to help one of the victims,” Staff-Sgt. John Guigon told CityNews.
It’s unclear what led to the shooting.
