Motorcyclist dead in crash on Stoney Trail

A motorcyclist died in a two-vehicle crash on Stoney Trail Wednesday, and Calgary police are looking into the cause.

Officers say the crash happened around 6:40 p.m. after the 48-year-old driver was going northbound on Stoney Trail and 17 Avenue SE.

They add that the man driving the motorcycle collided with an SUV driven by a 27-year-old woman.

The driver then struck a cable barrier on the left side of the road, suffered fatal injuries, and died at the scene, according to police.

The woman stayed behind, said investigators, adding that speed is likely to be a factor in the crash.

Alchohol and drugs are not considered factors.

Traffic was stacked up on northbound Stoney through the area, and the area was closed due to the incident.
