Calgary CTrain stations down for long weekend

CTrain stations in downtown Calgary will be closed on both the Blue and Red Lines this Thanksgiving long weekend.

Stations on the Red Line, from Sunnyside to 39 Avenue, and on the Blue Line from Downtown West-Kerby to Bridgeland-Memorial, will be closed starting at around 2 a.m. Saturday until Tuesday, Oct. 11.

A total of 21 stations are affected on both sides, and the closure will last for about three days.

The Red Line coming from the northwest will run on a 16-minute schedule and will stop at Sunnyside. The same line coming from the south will stop at 39 Avenue station and run on an 18-minute schedule.

The Blue Line coming from the northeast will stop at Bridgeland and will run on a 17-minute schedule, while the same line from the west will stop at Downtown West-Kerby and will run on a 17-minute schedule.

Calgary transit has shuttle buses that will be on 6 Avenue and 9 Avenue, with the Red Line buses running between Sunnyside and 39 Avenue, and the Blue Line between Downtown West-Kerby and Bridgeland stations. The buses will run every five minutes.

The closures are for repairs and maintenance projects that include:

  • 17th Avenue SE Extension Project, the Shoofly signal cutover
  • Green Line Utility relocation work
  • ENMAX manhole replacement
  • CP tunnel cleaning

The city transit service says it may work on other projects not listed, “which may be completed as time allows.”

In addition to the weekend closures, the Red Line is closed from City Hall and 39 Avenue stations starting Friday, until 2 a.m. on Oct. 8.

There are shuttle buses running between City Hall and 39 Avenue stations every five minutes. The Blue Line is on a 10-minute schedule to accommodate the Red Line closures.
