Panamount Panic, Auburn Sound Manor: Calgary’s creepy Halloween displays

After a two-year hiatus, Panamount Panic has returned in full force, ready to scare all Calgarians who dare to enter. Jillian Code reports.

There are plenty of spooky things to do in Calgary this Halloween besides going door-to-door collecting candy.

In the northwest community of Panorama Hills, the Panamount Panic haunted house is welcoming people of all ages into its frightening doors.

The house is near the intersection of Panamount Street NW and Panamount Villas NW. To enter, the organizers are asking for a donation to the Calgary Food Bank.

Meanwhile, roads will be closed along Auburn Sound Manor SE between Auburn Bay Boulevard SE and Auburn Bay Avenue SE Halloween night for ScareFest at Auburn Sound Manor.

Organizers say themed cars, vendors, entertainment, and candy will take over the street from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. in support of the Veterans Food Bank.

The event features stunning pumpkin carvings of classic horror and other pop-culture characters, as well as live pumpkin carving demonstrations.

While kids are out and about trick-or-treating, the Calgary Partners for Safety will be out patrolling city streets to keep everyone safe.

Halloween forecast

You likely won’t have to wear snow pants on top of your costume this year.

Kyle Fougere, meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, says it will be about five degrees at around 6 p.m. Monday evening, dropping down to about three or four degrees by about 8 p.m.

“It shouldn’t be too cold for those that are out trick-or-treating this evening,” Fougere said. “We did have some flurries in the area this morning, but we are expecting things to improve as the day goes on, so it should be clear for this evening.”

Fougere adds while Monday should be smooth sailing, there is snow in the forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday.

“That snow is really going to be lasting for quite a while, well into Wednesday. Over that 48-hour period we could see amounts that are probably more in the five to ten centimetres [range] in the Calgary area. But, some will be melting as it falls,” Fougere explained.
