Who let the penguins out? The Calgary Zoo as the avian flu subsides

The Calgary Zoo has announced that they’re bringing their penguins outdoors now that the Avian Influenza threat lessens.

In a tweet made Thursday, the Calgary Zoo says the Animal Care, Health and Welfare team has determined it’s safe for their feathered friends to head back outdoors now that the threat of Avian Influenza has subsided.

The zoo says it might be a little too cold for some species like the Chilean flamingos, but keep an eye out for king penguins and gentoo penguins as they return to their outdoor habitat soon.

The Rainforest Aviary inside the African Rainforest building also remains closed for maintenance until Nov. 12.

Visitors can still access the rest of the African Rainforest species including the western lowland gorillas.
