Canadian Finals Rodeo showcases championship this Sunday

The Canadian Finals Rodeo is entering the championship round Sunday in Red Deer.

Not only is this a showcase of the top athletes on the Canadian tour, but some of the best stock head to this event.

 

Some of the biggest names in Canadian Rodeo are taking part in the six-day event.

Many athletes from surrounding areas around Calgary are taking part this year.

Cochrane’s Tanner Milan is sitting in the lead of the steer wrestling event.

Milan has had the fastest time so far with a 3.8 second takedown on the first day of competition.

Milan is also on his way to capturing his first CFR belt buckle with his first place standing in steer wrestling entering today.

Calgary’s Nick Tetz is hoping to get his first successful ride in bull riding this afternoon.

Through the five days of competition, he’s been dealing with one tough game after the other.

Tetz is looking for that elusive first successful ride, as he has been bucked off four times and had a slap penalty on the second day.

Orin Larsen is looking to make three titles in four years in the bareback event. He enters today in third place.

Shelby Spielman started slowly through the first two days, but has won two of the last three days entering the championship Sunday, and is in third place.

In the tie-down roping event, Jesse Popescul is now sitting atop the pool being one of only three cowboys who have done so five successful times through five days.

In a star-studded field in bull riding Camrose’s Coy Robbins is sitting in the lead with four successful rides out of five attempts.

The rodeo kicks off at noon today at Westerner Park.

The Calgary Stampede has 30 of its top stocks at this year’s event.

The event has been going on for five days and has featured 133 rodeo athletes from Canada, USA, and Australia.
