Alberta Health Services (AHS) has launched an “online ask an expert page” to improve access to health services, including sharing information about influenza.
People will be able to use the page to ask Medical Officers of Health (MOH) common questions about influenza, viruses, and vaccines, and receive responses within two working days.
As the webpage can not be used for personal medical questions, the responses will be posted publicly on the webpage for all Albertans.
AHS says people who are looking for personal health advice, or non-urgent health assessment, can contact Health Link at 811.
Meanwhile, Health Link has added a “new Virtual Hold feature” to the nursing call line for easier access for health advice from an 811 registered nurse, as the number of calls increases.
Instead of having to wait for a long time on hold, people can request a call back, and get a call when their turn in the queue comes up.
In addition, To receive information about influenza by text, people can text the word ‘flu’ to 88111, and get a message with the information.
Information on Influenza and COVID-19 vaccines is also available online.
“Alberta’s government supports AHS in its leveraging of virtual and digital technologies,” said Minister of Health Jason Copping in a statement. “Innovations like these empower Albertans in managing their health and help them feel connected with the healthcare system at all times.”
