Calgary man charged with importing cocaine worth $5.3M into Canada

A Calgary man has been charged by the Integrated Border Enforcement Team (IBET) after drugs worth $5.3 million were allegedly found hidden in a shipment of produce at the border.

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) says it found and seized 53 kilograms of cocaine after a second examination of a commercial transport vehicle at the Coutts border crossing on Nov. 21.

Officers have charged 23-year-old Jagroop Singh with importation of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Singh is set to appear in Lethbridge Provincial Court on Nov. 29.

The IBET is a collaboration between RCMP, Calgary Police Service, and the CBSA.
