Close to 4,000 electric Audi electric vehicles are being recalled from the market due to a safety issue, Transport Canada said in a notice on Saturday.
The ministry cited that “liquid spilled on rear seats” can cause the control module to malfunction.
The document explained that in such instances, the vehicle “may enter emergency mode and suddenly lose power to the wheels,” and can cause a crash.

The affected Audi cars include model A6 and A7 sold between the 2019 and 2022; RS 6 and RS 7 sold in the years 2021 and 2022; and models S6 and S7 sold between 2020 and 2022.
The power-steering and braking systems, however, “will continue to work.”
Transport Canada added that warning messages may appear on the instrument panel when this happens.
Audi will reach out to affected owners by e-mail, and will be asked to take their vehicles to a dealer to install a protective cover on the gateway control module.
