Alberta asks people to get licence before cutting Christmas trees
Posted Dec 4, 2022 4:00 pm.
The Ministry of Forestry, Parks and Tourism in Alberta is asking people to apply for a licence before cutting their own trees.
“Obtaining a licence online is quick and easy,” the ministry tweeted.
Albertans can benefit from two types of permits: Personal Use Forest Products Permits (PUFPP), and Local Timber Permits (LTP).
The PUFPP allows people to cut Christmas trees, firewood, posts, and rails.

The ministry says Albertans can cut their own Christmas tree for free.
But Albertans are not allowed to cut trees without permission outside of forest areas, in national parks, and in provincial parks that are not designated ones, according to the province’s website.

Albertans who are eligible to apply for the PUFPP permit should be Alberta residents, at least 18 years old, and who have not violated forestry rules before.
The government also adds people can get a permit on behalf of someone else, as long as the person cutting the tree is carrying the licence on them.
In addition, the government gives permits for commercial use of wood.
