Calgary freezing cold ending briefly
Calgarians have a lot to cheer about as weather conditions improve over the next 24 hours after the city’s -30 C with windchill temperature on Tuesday.
Environment Canada is reporting some light snow for Tuesday evening but will shift to a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 1 C with clear and sunny skies for most of the day and a low of -15 C in the morning.
Thursday is also sunny with 0 C as the high and a low of – 8 C, while Friday goes up to 3 C.

“You’re either seeing winds from the north and air that’s really quite cold and then air from the southwest where things warm up like crazy. And that’s kind of what we’re seeing in the next 24 to 36 hours,” said Natalie Hasell, a meteorologist with Environment Canada.
However, she adds the quick freeze nature of the weather shift could create some dangerous conditions on the roads.
“Particularly since you’ve got some snow today, anything that melts will refreeze. So your road conditions, even though the weather itself might be somewhat benign, road conditions could actually be quite poor,” Hasell said.

Unfortunately, this is only expected to be a brief break from the cold, with temperatures dipping back into the mid-teens by Saturday. The high that day is – 8 C with a 60 per cent chance of flurries.
“Towards the weekend, we’ll see things settling back to below normal temperatures, but not deep freeze temperatures. And it kind of stays like that for at least a week, if not a week and a half,” Hasell said.
