Calgary police are no longer investigating the death of a man as a homicide after his body was found in the city’s northwest Saturday night.
Officers were called to the area of 12 Avenue NW near 22 Street around 9:15 p.m. for reports of a fight between two drivers.
Investigators determined one of the drivers, a 21-year-old man, threatened the other driver, a 35-year-old man, with a knife — at which point they got into a “physical altercation.”
During the fight, officers say the 21-year-old accidentally stabbed himself. When he tried to drive away, he passed out at the wheel and hit a light post near the intersection of 22A Street NW and 14 Avenue NW.
Police say the 21-year-old was declared dead at the scene by EMS. Meanwhile, the 35-year-old was taken to hospital with minor injuries after the fight.
EMS says both men were found in different locations –- one outside of a house and the other outside a vehicle.

Police add there is no evidence the two drivers knew each other.
In an update Monday, Calgary police said the 21-year-old’s death has been deemed non-criminal and is no longer being investigated as a homicide. Officers add his identity will not be released and no further information will be shared.
“This is a tragic event that led to devastating consequences over a simple dispute surrounding driving,” Staff-Sgt. Sean Gregson with Calgary Police said. “At a time when we are entering a season of celebration, we now have two families that will be forever impacted by this incident. This is a harsh reminder that a confrontation, especially with weapons, never leads to a positive outcome.”
