Victim of Calgary SE targeted shooting identified

Calgary police say the victim of a targeted shooting Thursday has been identified on Friday following an autopsy.

The victim is identified as 40-year-old Ashley Aaron Cuthbert Mawdsley, and is from Calgary.

Officers say the shooting happened in the southeast community of Douglasdale Thursday morning.

It happened around 8:30 a.m. on Douglas Ridge Circle. The victim was found dead at the scene.

Officers say Okotoks and Foothills emergency services responded to reports of a vehicle fire at around 9:40 p.m. on 296 Avenue E, just south of Calgary.

Police found a “burnt-out” SUV in Foothills County matching a vehicle description that police say is connected to the fatal shooting.

The vehicle is a white 2022 Ford Expedition, which officers say the suspect(s) used when they filled up a container with gas to use later in burning the SUV near Foothills County.

On Friday, police said in a statement that they are collecting more dashcam footage for a few areas:

  • Douglasdale Boulevard SE eastbound between 8:30 and 8:40 a.m.
  • Southbound on Deerfoot Trail, travelling toward Highway 552 between 8:30 and 8:45 a.m.
  • Southbound on Range Road 291 in Foothills County between 8:45 and 9 a.m.
  • Eastbound on 296 Avenue E to the 6400 block between 8:45 and 9 a.m.
