The government of Alberta is asking people to participate in a survey to help review and form an acceptable level of compensation for judges.
The province says on its website it has formed an independent judicial compensation commission in 2021 under Alberta’s Judicature Act for this purpose “for the period of April 1, 2021 to March 31, 2025.”
Meanwhile, the commission will give a public hearing at the Edmonton Law Courts building at 1A Sir Winston Churchill Square February 1 to 3 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
People can send their submissions by email to ruth.fast@gov.ab.ca. Submissions will remain open until Jan.16.
The government also says submissions will be available to read online when the survey is complete.

People interested in submitting a written application have to include their name, mailing address, email address and telephone number. They can also say whether they would like to participate in an oral submission during the three day hearing.
“The judicial compensation commission reviews and recommends changes in compensation every four years,” read the government’s website. “This includes salary rates, design and level of pension benefits, and types and kinds of benefits, and allowances.”
