WestJet is warning passengers of scammers faking the airline’s websites and social media accounts amid weather cancellations.
The Calgary based airline says in a statement they have received multiple reports of fraudulent accounts, and their security team is working on addressing the issue.
“We are advising all of our guests to remain vigilant against potential scams and fraud and asking that they double-check that the WestJet account they are interacting with is verified with a checkmark, and that the advertised phone number is ours before dialing at www.westjet.com/contact,” said the airline in a statement Thursday. “Additional information on common frauds and scams targeting WestJet guests, including paid ads, phone scams, free flight giveaways, and misdial scams can be found on WestJet’s advisory page under ‘scams’.”
Meanwhile, the airline is still dealing with weather cancellations across the country.

“Due to a second significant winter storm system, scheduled to impact Vancouver and the Southern BC region beginning on the evening of Thursday, Dec. 22, WestJet has proactively cancelled all flights arriving and departing Vancouver International Airport (YVR) beginning at 11:50 p.m. PST, until the late afternoon of Friday, Dec. 23, dependent on weather conditions,” the statement read. “In addition, flights have been proactively cancelled at Abbotsford International Airport (YXX), Victoria International Airport (YYJ), Nanaimo Airport (YCD), and Comox Airport (YQQ).
“The proactive cancellations will impact 126 flights across the five airports.”
