Calgary police seek dashcam footage of Christmas eve drunk driver

Calgary police are looking for witnesses or any dashcam footage after they say a drunk driver on Christmas eve allegedly hit someone.

It happened sometime between 11:40 a.m. and 12:05 p.m. Saturday after police received calls about a “vehicle driving dangerously,” along with an alleged hit-and-run in the city’s southeast.

Officers say the vehicle is a white Chevrolet Express van with the license plate BTY 8991, which travelled southbound on 24 Street to Deerfoot Trail SE, then drove westbound on Anderson Road SE, and finally headed northbound on Bonaventure Drive SE.

Police say they attempted to stop the driver, but couldn’t because he continued “driving erratically” through the intersections of 109 Avenue SE and Fairmount Drive. The driver finally stopped at Willow Park Drive SE.

An arrest was made, and officers say charges are pending.

“The holidays are a time to be with family and friends,” said Staff Sgt. Mark Auger of the Calgary Police Service General Investigations Unit. “The reckless actions of individuals who drive impaired could very well have taken the life of someone’s loved one. We are thankful no one was injured, but we would like to remind all Calgarians not to drink and drive.”

Investigators now seek dashcam footage of the van and the driver/ Police are not providing any details of injuries at this time.

Anyone with information about this incident or have any dashcam footage is asked to call police at 403-266-1234 or leave a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
