Man charged in September drive-by shooting in Kensington

Calgary police have charged a man in connection to an early morning drive-by shooting that happened in the Kensington area in September.

It happened at the Monte Carlo Lounge and Bar on 10 Street NW on Sept. 18 at around 1:30 a.m., after police received calls about the drive-by in the early morning.

Officers say a man and woman were injured, with the woman being sent to hospital in critical condition.

The woman has since been released and is continuing to recover from serious injuries, while the man had non-life-threatening injuries and has made a full recovery.

Calgary police have charged 28-year-old Moses Danto with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of “discharge of a firearm with intent.” The police say the firearm has been recovered.

Danto is set to appear in court on Jan. 10, 2023.

“This random shooting resulted in life-changing injuries for one of the victims and showed a reckless disregard for public safety,” says Sgt. Shelby Stewart of the Calgary police.

“There were several people standing in front of the business when this shooting occurred, and any of them could have also been struck. We continue to work tirelessly to address the gun violence in the city and hold people accountable so Calgarians can feel safe in their communities.”
