RCMP responded to a major multi-vehicle crash north of Airdrie and Veterans Blvd that left one person dead.
It happened late Tuesday night on Highway 2 and Highway 72 in Rocky View County, just after 10 p.m.
Mounties mobilized after they received calls about 15-20 vehicles caught in a major pile-up.
The crash is still under investigation, but nine passengers were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, including “broken bones.”
Mounties say around 14 vehicles were involved in the crash, including a commercial vehicle with a trailer, five sedan cars, four pickup trucks, three SUVs, and a van.
In an update Wednesday before noon, RCMP say one lane is open going northbound, and that traffic is moving “slowly.”
They say delays are expected to continue until all lanes are open.
Weather is being reported as a major issue leading to poor conditions on the road, with ice, snow, and poor visibility due to blowing snow and fog.
