Lethbridge man faces charges for alleged murder of wife

A Lethbridge man is facing charges for the alleged first-degree murder of his wife that happened late Tuesday evening.

Police say they responded to calls for a “disturbance at a home” around the 2500 block of 13 Avenue N just after 11 p.m. that involved a man and a woman.

When officers arrived, a man was seen exiting the home and was “arrested without incident.”

A woman, 59-year-old Shelley Dragland, was found critically injured, but after attempts by EMS to save her life, she was declared dead at the scene.

In addition, investigators say that the suspect, 59-year-old David Albert Dragland, was sitting with the woman in the home when he went into the kitchen to grab a knife, and then allegedly stabbed the victim “multiple times.”

The suspect faces one count of first-degree murder and remains in custody.

He is set to appear in court on Jan. 3.

Lethbridge police say this is the second homicide to hit the city in 2022.
