Canada’s Spoons emerged in the early 80s in Burlington, Ontario, with a synth-pop, new wave sound that led to hits like “Nova Heart” and “Arias & Symphonies.”
The band earned opening tour gigs for the likes of Culture Club, Simple Minds, and The Police and became a bit more mainstream by the time their most enduring hit, “Romantic Traffic” debuted in 1984.
CityNews’ Todd Kaufman sat down with founding members Gord Deppe and Sandy Horne to discuss various topics, including why meeting their fans means so much to them.
“We like it. We don’t just do it because we have to,” Deppe said. “A lot of people just want to go back to their hotel or sit backstage and have a beer, whatever. We like to go hear the people’s stories, sometimes the best stuff happens after the show.”
