Three men from Calgary have been charged, two of which police believe are connected with an attempted kidnapping and shooting that happened weeks ago.
The kidnapping attempt happened on Jan. 6. Officers with Calgary Police were called to the area of 13 Avenue SW and 7 Street SW around 10:30 a.m. for reports of a shooting.
Police say a man and a woman were walking down the street when another man got out of a vehicle, pointed a gun at the man, and told him to get in. The two got into a fight, during which police say the gun was fired.
The man was able to get away from his would-be kidnappers with minor injuries, and police say nobody was hurt by gunfire.
Investigators believe the woman knew the man with the gun and the attack was not random.
Calgary police say they found several guns after executing four search warrants at homes in different parts of the city, which led to the arrests.
Officers searched homes in the northwest community of Citadel, the northeast community of Temple, and the southeast communities of Southview and Forest Lawn.
Police found several guns, holsters, ammunition, drugs, cash, and body armour among other items.

Forty-eight-year-old Malcolm Alfred Nedd and 28-year-old Alec John McLennan face several gun-related charges as well as kidnapping, robbery, and disguise with intent.
Officers also charged 45-year-old Michael William Tracey with gun and drug-related offences.
Nedd and Tracey are expected to appear in court on Jan. 20, while McLennan is set to appear in court on Jan. 27.
“This shooting took place on a busy downtown street, on a Friday morning. We are incredibly thankful that no innocent bystanders were struck by the gunfire. We take these matters very seriously and invested a number of resources to identify those involved in this violent offence, while removing illegal weapons from those who seek to cause harm,” Staff-Sgt. Kurt Jacobs with Calgary Police said.
