A man has been taken to hospital after police shot him in the northwest community of Highwood Wednesday morning.
In an update, Calgary police say they were called to Hendon Drive at 4 a.m. for reports of an unknown man in a box truck who “struck a home and other parked vehicles.”
Officers initially asked people on Hendon Drive to shelter in place, which is no longer the case.

Upon arrival, a “confrontation” happened, and police say an officer shot the man “due to the rapidly changing dynamics.”
The man was then taken into custody.
At the time, the police presence was heavy, with an armoured rescue vehicle on the scene.

The man was taken to hospital, though police don’t say what his condition was at the time. He is currently in stable condition.
Investigators say no other injuries were reported.
There is no word on what led to the incident, but officers say the Alberta Serious Response Teams, the province’s police watchdog, are currently investigating.
