Canmore RCMP charges 4 suspects with drugs and weapons

RCMP in Canmore and Banff say officers have charged four suspects with offences related to drugs and weapons.

Mounties say they were investigating illegal possession of firearms in December 2022, when they searched a house located in the Silvertip area of Canmore and seized three shotguns — two of which were loaded, two loaded handguns, several rounds of ammunition, 260 grams of suspected cocaine, and $800 in cash.

RCMP say 26-year-old Austin Clark Desylva of Canmore has been arrested and charged with pointing a firearm, weapons offences (x20), possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled substance, and possession of property obtained by crime.

Officers say Desylva is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 22 at Canmore Provincial Court.

Meanwhile, they say, the three other suspects are men between the ages of 36 and 45, and were taken into custody, before being released on “recognizance.”
