Calgary police investigating two early morning shootings

The Calgary Police Service (CPS) is investigating two unrelated, targeted, shootings in the city early Wednesday morning.

Police say the shootings happened “in quick succession,” requiring a significant number of officers.

CPS says two suspects have been arrested, in addition to others being identified and located.

Police say at around 2:40 a.m., they were called for reports of gunshots in the area of Temple Drive NE and 43 Avenue NE, where they found a man shot several times inside a home in the area. He was taken to the hospital and later listed in stable condition.

Police say they believe the man was outside his home with a group of people when he got shot. They also believe both groups exchanged gunfire.

Officers add they also arrested two people inside the home where they found the wounded man, as they investigate their involvement in the shooting.

Police say, shortly after, at around 3:10 a.m., they were called for reports of a red Jeep Commander on fire in the area of Saddleland Court NE, and they believe the burning vehicle is related to the shooting in Temple Drive NE.

They add the shooting is believed to be targeted — “with organized crime motivations” — and the suspects knew each other from before.

Anyone who might have seen a red Jeep Commander, a white Chrysler 300, and a white truck,” believed to be either a Dodge Ram or GMC Sierra,” between 2 and 3 a.m. in the area is asked to contact police.

CPS says, shortly after at around 3:15 a.m., they were called for reports of another shooting, where a man had been shot at the intersection of 5 Avenue and 52 Street SE. They say the man was seriously injured and was taken to hospital by EMS.

Officers add they found a stolen car near the incident, a dark grey Honda Civic, and they believe this could be related to the shooting.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police at 403-266-1234, or leave a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
