Calgary-North East MLA Sawhney not seeking re-election

Rajan Sawhney, Minister of Trade, Immigration and Multiculturalism with the Government of Alberta, is not running in the spring election.
The Calgary-North East MLA took to Twitter to spread the word.
“I met with Premier Smith to inform her that I will not be seeking the nomination and re-election for Calgary-North East.,” reads the tweet. “I will continue to serve as the MLA for Calgary-North East until the end of this mandate.”

She was first elected to public office in 2019, and held several portfolios within the governments of Jason Kenney and Danielle Smith.
In addition, she was one of the the seven candidates in the race to replace Kenney.
Another leadership candidate, Leela Aheer, has also said she won’t seek re-election.
