Cold temperatures pervade Calgary and the province as windchills near -40 C continue Thursday morning.
According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), Calgary saw over 35 centimetres of snow Tuesday.
Since then, the weather agency has put up an “Extreme Cold Warning” throughout Alberta, with overnight temperatures for Calgary sitting near or around -40 C for the remainder of the week.
“Extreme cold puts everyone at risk,” the ECCC said. “Risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter.”
It recommends covering up as best as possible if heading out, as frostbite can develop in a few minutes on exposed skin, “especially with wind chill.”
Temperatures start to ease on Saturday, with the temperature high expected to hit 8 C.
The City of Calgary says road crews continue to clear streets, and area highways are in better shape.
