Calgary Beddington Heights fire sees no injuries, several pets dead

Calgary fire says no injuries were reported, but several pets died following a house fire in the northeast area of Beddington Heights on Wednesday.

Fire crews responded to the fire around 8:30 p.m. on Berkley Rise.

Upon arrival, firefighters say they encountered heavy smoke and flames from the basement window of a two-story detached home.

The people in the homes were evacuated before firefighters arrived.

Firefighters say the fire came from the basement bedroom and was quickly extinguished.

Seven people escaped the flames, but five pets died, including one dog and four cats.

Fire crews say all the occupants have been displaced, and EMS reported no injuries after assessing residents.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
