Calgary Zoo expecting new baby gorilla
The Calgary Zoo is going to have a new baby gorilla, as one of its gorillas is pregnant.
The zoo took to Twitter to share the good news.
“‘Yewande’, our 14-year-old gorilla is expecting!” reads the tweet.

The new addition of the lowland gorilla, will give “Eyare”, the zoo’s youngest gorilla, a new half sibling.

“That’s right! Our littlest western lowland gorilla, ‘Eyare’, may soon be giving up her title as the youngest member of the troop,” reads the tweet.
Eyare has proven to be very social, where in November, the zoo shared a video, showing the baby socializing with other animals.

“It couldn’t have gone smoother,” the zoo tweeted. “Let’s hear it for the enrichment power of mixed-species habitats!” the zoo tweeted.

Eyare is a little under one year old.
“She is becoming more independent each day,” the zoo said.
Western lowland gorillas are gentle, peaceful, affectionate, and shy.
Currently, there are there are 100,000 western lowland gorillas, 5,000 eastern lowlands, 1,000 mountain gorillas, and less than 300 cross-river gorillas in the world.
