Spring’s official start may be only ten days away but it seems Mother Nature missed the memo.
The city is seeing temperatures of -20 C with windchill throughout the day Friday.
About five centimetres of snow is also expected for the city during the day with another 2-4 cm in the evening.
Meanwhile, Calgary had a fog advisory in place Friday morning.
CityNews Meteorologist Michael Kuss says the advisory would be lifted by Friday afternoon but adds it may remain frigid for a couple more days.
“We just can’t shake the cold,” Kuss said. “The temperatures are going to be well below average all the way through the weekend, and then finally a rebound next week.”
“We could even see some showers next week. That’s how warm it will be. This is not the case today.”
Meanwhile, the ECCC has placed many parts of southern Alberta under snowfall warnings, with heavy snowfall of up to 10 to 20 centimetres coming from the south on Friday.
That includes Okotoks, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Strathmore, Pincher creek, and Hanna, with the snow starting early Friday morning and continuing through the day before tapering off in the evening.
Calgary, so far, is not included in the snowfall warning.
