Man missing, dog dead in Calgary fire

Calgary fire says one man is missing and one dog is dead in northwest Calgary due to a fire Friday afternoon.

Two houses have also been destroyed and multiple others damaged.

Acting battalion chief, Innes Fraser, says the Calgary Fire Department received reports for a house on fire along Citadel Way NW at around 12:20 p.m.

Fraser says the fire started in one home and expanded to another by the time they arrived.

He adds the missing man is believed to be inside a basement.

Calgary fire says the missing adult is “presumed to have fallen victim to the fire,” noting unsafe conditions preventing crews from entering the basement.

Crews say one man and a dog, and two families were forced to leave their homes.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

A CityNews caller says a “massive house fire” caused road closures along Citadel Way and Citadel Drive.
