Calgary police seek dashcam footage in alleged road rage incident

Calgary police are seeking “persons of interest” and dashcam footage in an alleged road-rage incident first reported in February.

Officers say the assault happened in a Save-On-Foods parking lot on Hunterhorn Drive NE. Initially, police said it happened at a nearby Canadian Tire gas station.

It started near the Deerfoot City parking lot, police say, at the intersection of 9 Street and 64 Avenue at around 5:45 p.m. on Feb. 20, where the victim drove a black 2010 Mazda 3 Hatchback and was waiting to turn onto a westbound lane of 64 Avenue.

Officers say the suspect drove a white Nissan Rogue, which they believe is a 2018-2022 model. A passenger was also in the vehicle, who police are seeking as well.

According to police, the suspect was ahead of the victim when they failed to advance on the green light, which led to the victim honking at them.

Officers say this prompted the suspect to follow the victim, “gesturing” at him to pull over.

At that time, investigators say the two left their vehicles, with the suspect approaching the victim and assaulting him, leaving him with “significant injuries to his legs, head, and face.”

The resulting interaction led to a crash on 9 Avenue and 6 Street SE at 6:40 p.m. the same day.

Police ask anyone with CCTV, dashcam footage, or information about this incident to call them at 403-266-1234 or leave a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
