A man in his 20s is dead after a shooting in the Safeway Kensington parking lot in northwest Calgary Wednesday.

It happened just after 9 p.m. between 10 Street and 9A Street, with gunshots being reported by multiple people.

Calgary police told CityNews the shooting was between two different parties.

Officers say he was found dead late Wednesday in downtown Calgary at 6 Avenue and 10 Street SW.

In a release, police say they received reports of gunshots heard in the downtown area at 9:30 p.m.

EMS also responded to the area.

However, officers say a driver in a black SUV approached on-duty Calgary firefighters seeking help for a passenger that was shot at the same time.

The members attempted to save him but declared him dead on the scene.

Meanwhile, investigators say the driver fled the scene before police arrived.
