Calgary police investigate alleged targeted shooting near Central Memorial Park

Calgary police found a vehicle allegedly involved in what they say was a targeted shooting near Central Memorial Park on Wednesday.

Just before 3 a.m., officers were called to the area on the corner of 12 Avenue and 2 Street SW.

They found evidence of a shooting and held the spot for “several hours” in daylight.

Officers say bullets struck a nearby building; however, no injuries have been reported.

After reviewing CCTV footage, investigators say there are “offender and victim vehicles” involved.

As a result, later Wednesday, officers found a tow truck on the corner of Centre Street and 16 Avenue NW.

“This is yet another example of brazen violence that put our entire community at risk. We have dedicated a number of resources from across the Service to hold those responsible accountable, as well as to suppress further incidents of violence,” said acting S. Sgt Mike Sushelnitsky with the Calgary Police Service organized crime unit.

Police ask anyone with information about this incident to call them at 403-266-1234 or leave a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
