Two Calgary men remain on Canada’s most-wanted list

Two Calgary men remain on the BOLO Program’s list of Canada’s Top 25 Most Wanted.

The BOLO Program, with BOLO standing for “be on the lookout,” offers financial incentives “for citizens to be on the lookout and submit tips to the authorities.”

Kier Bryan Granado, 23, of Calgary, was added to the BOLO list in 2021, and Talal Amer, 29, was added in 2022. Both suspects remain outstanding, and the BOLO Program is offering $50,000 rewards for information that leads to their arrests.

On May 10, 2022, authorities received multiple reports of two vehicles driving erratically along 36 Street SE while involved in a shooting. They crashed into two other vehicles in the intersection of 36 Street and 17 Avenue SE, and one suspect fled the scene.

The incident resulted in the death of Angela McKenzie, 40, a driver of one of the uninvolved vehicles. Several homes were also struck by gunfire during the incident, according to police.

Amer is wanted on seven Canada-wide warrants in relation to this incident, including manslaughter, attempted murder, reckless discharge of a firearm, possession of a prohibited firearm with an obliterated serial number, unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm, possession of a prohibited firearm and possession of a prohibited device.

Officers say he is around 5 11″ tall, 230 pounds, with brown eyes and brown hair.

“Since we issued warrants for the arrest of Amer, we have worked with our law enforcement partners across the globe in an effort to locate him,” said S Sgt. Sean Gregson of the CPS Homicide Unit. “The death of Angela McKenzie has had an enormous impact on our community and we are committed to doing everything takes to ensure that he is found.”

Another Calgary man still at large

On Dec. 13, 2015, police responded to reports of a shooting in an alley in the 100 block of Del Ray Road NE, where they found 26-year-old Hussein Merhi in medical distress. He died at the scene.

In July 2019, Joseph Trieu, 26, of Calgary, was charged with one count of accessory after the fact of murder.

A Canada-wide warrant was also issued for Granado of Calgary for the first-degree murder of Merhi.

Granado is still wanted by police. He is described as being five feet tall and 80 pounds, with brown eyes and a full sleeve tattoo on his left arm. He may have either black or dyed-blond hair.

Up to $50,000 in rewards are available for tips leading to the arrest of Granado.

“We believe that this was a case of reckless, organized crime-related violence,” said S Sgt. Martin Schiavetta of the CPS Homicide Unit. “We believe there are people in Calgary and in Toronto, who have helped Granado evade police, and regardless of how much time has passed, we will not rest until the suspect and anyone who has assisted him is held accountable.”

Police say no information is insignificant.

Investigators are looking for any and all information in relation to the homicide investigations and the whereabouts of Amer and Granado.

It is also a crime to aid an individual who is wanted by police. Anyone involved in helping suspects evade arrest could also be charged criminally.

Police ask anyone with information about this incident to call them at 403-266-1234 or leave a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

The BOLO Program started in 2018 to help police services to reach wider audiences.
