The 16th annual Calgary Comics & Entertainment Expo attracted record crowds to Stampede Park this past weekend.
Organizers estimate it was the most well-attended event since 2015, attracting nearly 100,000 fans over four days to Stampede Park and to Stephen Avenue for the first POW! Parade of Wonders since 2019.
Celebrity guests such as Hayden Christensen, James McAvoy, David Harbour, Sam Raimi, Andy Serkis and the entire cast of The Kids In The Hall only increased the excitement and attendance numbers.
Andrew Moyes, Vice President of FAN EXPO HQ says “This has been a Calgary Expo we’ll never forget. We are delighted not just by the turnout, but by the enthusiasm of the fans — they showed up in costume and in great spirit to celebrate fandom and build community.
Moyes adds, “It’s thrilling to have sold-out days, and we’re so looking forward to growing the show even more when Stampede Park’s exciting transformation is complete.”
The Calgary Expo has grown over the years with cosplaying quickly becoming one of the mainstays.
One of the top cosplayers is Carley Bombshell (@carleybombshell):
Only a short 16 years ago, the Calgary Expo was ALL about comics and it remains at the heart of the event.
