By Lauryn Heintz and Alejandro Melgar

Calgary police have identified the person killed in broad daylight in the city’s northeast on Saturday.

Following an autopsy on Monday, the victim has been identified as 33-year-old Calgarian James Allan Feeney.

He died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds.

According to police, the two other shooting victims remain in hospital in stable condition.

Investigators issued a plea to the public Sunday, asking for help in finding a black 2008 Acura TL.

“This is a tragic incident which appears to have resulted from a senseless confrontation and has now left one person dead and two others injured,” said S Sgt. Gregson of the Calgary Police Service (CPS) homicide unit.

“We continue to pursue all tips and information from the public and have been working around the clock to hold those involved responsible.”

The victim’s sister, Alyssa Feeney, spoke at a news conference, saying the family is “deeply saddened by our sudden and tragic loss.”

“James was taken from us too soon. We are devastated by this senseless act of violence,” she told the media tearfully.

She and the family are looking for more information on his death to help police with their investigation.

“We understand that this is a difficult time for everyone involved, but we believe working together can make a difference,” Alyssa said.

Gregson told reporters police have spoken with two people during their investigation but have yet to find a suspect.

“Until we get hard evidence that can point to any one person, we’re keeping all our options open and investigating all the tips that are coming in,” he said.

When asked about this shooting being the second one to happen in the area recently, Gregson said the two incidents aren’t connected.

“We see no connection at all between them. The fact that they happened in the same community, maybe it’s just more of a coincidence. We’ve had other shootings occur in other ways as well,” he said.

“Calgary is a safe city, I believe. I think that’s just one-off that these two came from the same community.”

Authorities were called to the Martindale neighbourhood Saturday afternoon for reports of gunshots.

Following the incident, police conducted a search warrant on a property in the area Monday and continue on Tuesday.

CPS says the investigation is ongoing, and members of the public are encouraged to come forward with any information related to this incident.

Police ask anyone with information about this incident to call them at 403-266-1234 or leave a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
