His girlfriend’s craving for cake brought a Lethbridge man to a 7-Eleven last month, where he bought the winning ticket for a $55 million Lotto Max draw.
The Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC) revealed Aaron Parsons as the winner of the April 25 draw on Thursday.
“We had no eggs or sugar, so we went to the store, and I bought the ticket,” he said in a statement.
He purchased the ticket a few days before the draw at the 7-Eleven on Scenic Drive North in Lethbridge.
“I saw an ad about the lottery, and it reminded me to check my ticket,” Parsons said. “I checked it, and all I said was: ‘No. No? No way! No…'”
“I could not believe it,” he continued. “I scanned it a couple times to make sure I was seeing things right and then I called WCLC to triple-check that I had actually won.”
When asked what’s he going to do with 55 million dollars, Parsons said, “Share it.”
He plans to tell his parents they can quit their jobs and will give his brother and a few friends some money.
As for the cake-craving girlfriend, he says he told her he will buy her “whatever kind of car she wants.”
“This is completely life-altering, and I’m still in such shock. I haven’t started thinking about what I need or want right now – not yet,” Parsons said when asked how he would spend the money for himself.
He did later say he would get Lasik eye surgery.
According to the WCLC, his win is the fifth-largest Lotto Max win in the province overall.
Calgary man Mitchell Dyck claims the number one spot with his $70 million win in October, which went unclaimed for months before he stepped forward.
