Calgary Marathon leads to road closures

The Calgary Marathon kicked off Sunday morning leading to several closures including roads, parking lots, and bus detours.

Road closures include downtown westbound 9 Avenue S.E., westbound 11 Avenue S.W., northbound 14 Street, Kensington Road, west and eastbound Memorial Drive, and Parkdale Boulevard N.W. heading into Bowness and Bowness Road.

Darren Hailes, a spokesperson for the event, told CityNews in an interview Mother Nature is more than cooperating.

“The weather is perfect for a day of running, there is not a cloud in the sky,” Hailes said. “It’s gonna be mild temperatures which are perfect for running. And there isn’t any hint of smoke in the air whatsoever.”

The marathon started at 6 a.m. and will last until 3 p.m. with 9,259 laced up for the annual event.
