Arson charges laid in Inglewood area brush fire

Calgary police say one of two brush fires on Monday in the city was deliberately set.

The fire was reported in Pearce Estate Park near Inglewood just before 6 p.m.

Police say they were on regular patrol when they spotted it and started evacuating the area.

Firefighters put it out quickly but not before it burned about three acres of vegetation.

Police say a man came up to them and admitted he started the fire.

He said he collected a bunch of ‘”poplar fluff in a big pile”‘ and lit it on fire and it then spread.

The 33-year-old man is now charged with arson, and police say he will appear in court on July 7.
