Suspect wanted after Calgary woman dragged by car: police

Calgary police are looking to identify a suspect in connection with a dangerous driving investigation, after a woman was dragged by a vehicle last month.

Investigators have released images of the man they’re looking to speak with, as well as the vehicle he was driving at the time.

It happened on Friday, May 26, just before 7 p.m. in the are of Edmonton Trail and 16 Avenue N.E.

Police say the woman was “believed to be panhandling” in the area before she walked into a convenience store parking lot, where she had a “brief interaction with an unknown man, who was driving a silver Toyota Echo.”

When the woman began to walk on 15 Avenue N.E., police say the driver followed in his vehicle before stopping near her.

“It is believed the victim requested money from the man, which he agreed to give, before he unexpectedly pulled the money back and quickly accelerated the vehicle,” police explain.

The woman is said to have been dragged about 150 to 200 metres, with police saying “the vehicle continued to accelerate and travel forward” as she held on.

The victim eventually fell off the car and was seriously hurt. She was taken to the hospital and has since been released.

Police are looking for a suspect who is described as 5’6″ tall with a slim build. Investigators say the man, who is about 25 years old, has black hair, a chin-strap goatee, and a moustache.

At the time of the incident, he was wearing a red t-shirt with a white oval-shaped logo on the front, black pants, and red shoes.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact the CPS at 403-266-1234.
