Calgary man faces terrorism charges: RCMP

Following a federal RCMP investigation, a Calgary man is now facing terrorism charges.

RCMP Federal Policing Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (INSET), along with Calgary police, made the arrest on Thursday.

Zakarya Rida Hussein, 20, appeared in court Friday, and faces two counts of facilitating terrorist activity and two counts of participating in or contributing to, directly or indirectly, an activity of a terrorist group.

He was taken back into custody, awaiting another court appearance.

Mounties say they won’t provide any more details at this time.

The RCMP asks citizens to report any information on terrorism or related suspicious activity to the National Security Information Network at 1-800-420-5805 or by email or to their local police.

“If there is an immediate threat to your safety, please call 911,” a statement reads.
